Is a Quality Fence a Good Investment?

You may have heard us herald the news that a quality deck is an excellent investment for most homes, but what about a quality fence? Is having a fence really worth the money? While a fence may not give you a monetary return on your investment (although that is a possibility), there are other benefits a fence offers that are well worth the cost. What are they?

Curb Appeal

Curb appeal may be cosmetic, but you and potential buyers will appreciate it. A quality fence can be designed to enhance the look of your home with its style and color, as well as beautify your landscaping and outdoor living space. It is important to remember, however, that maintaining your fence well is crucial. A dilapidated fence that is in disrepair can easily detract from the appeal of your home and drive away future homeowners that are not interested in replacing a fence right away.

Privacy

Privacy is something that most homeowners appreciate while they are outside. They aren’t the only ones! Neighbors also appreciate fences, since you can’t see them, and they can’t see you. Being able to enjoy your outdoor area without people watching is certainly a benefit of having a quality fence.

Less Noise

Less noise may not be the first benefit that comes to mind in relation to a fence, but it is one! Wood fences (and some other materials) do a good job of absorbing and deflecting noise from passing traffic, lawn care, neighbors’ parties and more. Additionally, if you are someone who likes to host or who frequently creates noise, having a fence is a great way to keep your noise contained.

Better Security

Maybe the most popular reason for installing a fence is enhanced security. Whether you have a pool, pets, or small children, having a fence keeps the right people in and the wrong people out. Some types of fences offer greater security than others, so do some research based upon your reasons for needing a secure fence. Big pets will need a tall fence, small pets will need a fence without large gaps, and children will benefit from a fence that isn’t easily climbed.

Clear Property Lines

Last but not least, a fence will define clear property lines for you, your neighbors, and potential buyers. By having a visual marker of your property lines, you will prevent neighbors from intruding onto your property (whether intentionally or not) and keep stress to a minimum by maintaining good relationships with the property owners around you.
